Days until retirement calculator
A retirement countdown in days, weeks, working days and Mondays. Enter the date you stop working, or your date of birth and the age you expect to stop, and I'll count them. It takes me under a millisecond. HR asked for a loading bar, so it looks like effort. I said no.
It all happens in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere. It's an estimate, not pension advice.

How the Mondays are counted
The calculator counts every Monday strictly between today and your retirement date. Today doesn't count, even if it is a Monday (you're already in it), and your retirement day doesn't count either, even if it falls on one (you won't be going in). It uses the date on your own device, so the number goes down at your midnight, not ours.
Bank holiday Mondays are included. There are about four a year, and they're actually quite nice. Nobody prints anything. Annual leave is included too, because the calculator doesn't know your plans, and HR would rather not ask. If you work part-time or shifts, the count is still every calendar Monday: it's a measure of time, not of how many you'll spend at a desk.
If you use Option B, the retirement date is your birthday in the year you reach the age you entered. Someone born on 29 February retires on 1 March in a year that isn't a leap year, which seems fair after all that waiting.
How many days until retirement? A quick table
A year has about 365 days, 261 working days (Monday to Friday) and 52 Mondays (52.18, if you're counting, and you are). For a quick sense of scale:
| Years to go | Days | Working days | Mondays |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 365 | 261 | 52 |
| 2 | 731 | 522 | 104 |
| 5 | 1,826 | 1,304 | 261 |
| 10 | 3,653 | 2,609 | 522 |
| 15 | 5,479 | 3,913 | 783 |
| 20 | 7,305 | 5,218 | 1,044 |
| 25 | 9,131 | 6,522 | 1,304 |
| 30 | 10,958 | 7,827 | 1,565 |
| 35 | 12,784 | 9,131 | 1,826 |
| 40 | 14,610 | 10,436 | 2,087 |
| 45 | 16,436 | 11,740 | 2,348 |
| 50 | 18,263 | 13,045 | 2,609 |
A school leaver at 18 with a state pension age of 68 has about 2,600 Mondays to go. Someone at 60 with seven years left has about 365, which is one for every day of the year, and somehow that feels worse.
Pension age: subject to change
There's no single retirement age, and the official ones keep moving. As a rough guide: in the UK the State Pension age is 66, rising to 67 between 2026 and 2028, with a further rise to 68 already set out in law for later on. In Australia the Age Pension age is 67. In the United States, the full retirement age for Social Security is 67 for anyone born in 1960 or later. Most countries have reviewed theirs recently. Most will review theirs again. I print every announcement, and the font gets smaller each time.
Check your own government's pension service for the date that applies to you, then come back and count. Pension age subject to change. It will change.
Quick answers
How many days until I retire?
Enter your retirement date, or your date of birth and retirement age, in the calculator above for the exact count. As a rule of thumb, every year to go is about 365 days, 52 weeks, 261 working days and 52 Mondays, so 20 years is about 7,305 days.
How many working days until I retire?
About 261 for every year left: every Monday to Friday between today and your retirement date. The calculator counts them exactly. It doesn't know about your annual leave or bank or public holidays, so take those off yourself, which is the nicest subtraction you'll do all year.
How many Mondays until I retire?
About 52 a year (52.18, to be exact). Someone with 30 years to go has about 1,565 Mondays left. The calculator counts every Monday strictly between today and your retirement date.
What age can I retire?
It depends on where you live, and it keeps changing. The UK State Pension age is rising from 66 to 67 between 2026 and 2028. In Australia the Age Pension age is 67, and in the United States full retirement age is 67 for anyone born in 1960 or later. See Mondays until retirement by country.
The small print
This is a joke with accurate arithmetic, not financial or retirement advice. It doesn't know about your pension pot, your savings, your mortgage or whether you'll want to stop. For actual decisions about your actual pension, talk to an actual human: a regulated financial adviser, or your country's free government pension guidance service.
